Strength Training After 45: Give Recovery a Place in Your Plan
One of the most overlooked parts of training after 45 is recovery.
We talk about showing up. Working hard. Being consistent.
But being consistent also means creating a routine you can recover from and repeat.
Look at the whole week
A workout sits inside a real life. Work, family responsibilities, sleep, and other activity all affect how ready you feel for the next session.
If every workout leaves you exhausted for days, the answer may be to adjust the plan.
That might mean less resistance, fewer sets, a different exercise, or more time between demanding sessions. It may also mean looking at sleep and regular meals.
Recovery doesn’t mean abandoning strength
We still need an appropriate challenge. We also need room to adapt.
A comfortable walk or gentle mobility session may fit between strength workouts. A rest day can be a useful part of the plan.
Soreness isn’t a scorecard. New or persistent pain deserves attention rather than being dismissed as the price of getting stronger.
Make progress sustainable
At our Algonquin studio, we can adjust a session to your current abilities while keeping your longer-term goals in view.
The goal is to build you up for life outside the gym—and help you keep coming back.
